The Week Ahead: 12th – 16th June 2023

Overview for the Week Ahead

All eyes will be on the Federal Reserve this week with the FOMC decision on Wednesday. Markets are betting on a pause at this meeting. But many believe there could be further rate hikes down the line as early as July. In recent speeches, that officials have been split on whether the central bank should continue its path of rising rates.

On top of the fed decision, it’s a busy week on the economic calendar. We will be getting the latest readings on inflation, both the consumer and producer price indexes. Other checks on the consumer are due as well. Both retail sales and consumer sentiment will be released.

No surprises are expected from the European Central Bank or Bank of Japan this week, with markets widely expecting the ECB to hike and stay hawkish, and the BOJ to stick to its ultra-loose monetary policy.

Have your trading charts ready for a very busy week!
